“A single pebble dropped into a lake creates and affect that never stops until those small waves attain the goal of reaching the shore. And without someone starting those ripples, the lake remains stagnant.”

In January of 2009 we lost a great friend, father, son, brother and ECU Pirates supporter when Ron Pugh unexpectedly passed away. As a Pirate Club chapter we lost our Pirate Brother and vice president. Ron was a 1977 graduate of Randleman High School and a 1984 graduate of East Carolina University. He was a member of the ECU Pirates Club and a participant in the ECU Education Foundation. He was a member of the New Market Civitan Club and the Randleman Athletic Boosters' Club. He was a member of the Marlboro Friends Meeting. He was the Manager and Vice President of Quality Auto Sales in Asheboro and was a member of the Carolinas Independent Automobile Dealers' Association (CIADA).

To honor Ron’s memory we have established The Ron Pugh Scholarship Endowment within the East Carolina Pirate Club, also known as the ECU Educational Foundation. Our commitment pledge is $30,000 to be raised over a period of the next five years.
The endowment of a student-athlete scholarship is one of the most loyal and generous gifts a donor can make in support of East Carolina University’s athletics program. In making an endowment gift, a donor affords the ECU Educational Foundation the ability to guarantee that funds will be available from the endowment’s earnings to help fund student-athlete scholarship support in perpetuity.

During the next five years the Triad Counties Pirate Club will be hosting fund raising opportunities and events that will give others an opportunity to honor Ron’s memory. The most important of these is our annual scholarship golf tournament that is now and will be forever named The Ron Pugh Memorial Golf Tournament. All proceeds each year from the tournament go toward meeting the requirements of the Ron Pugh Endowment. During the next several years there will be other events that we will be hosting and those will be announced in emails and on the Triad Counties Pirate Club website.
In addition to the special events, anyone wishing to make a tax deductible donation to The Ron Pugh Endowment can do so in a couple of different ways. One is to make a donation directly to the Triad Counties Pirate Club and it will be directed to the Ron Pugh Endowment. Another way is to contact the ECU Pirate Club directly, either by phone or letter, and make a donation directing it toward The Ron Pugh Endowment. For current Pirate Club members this donation will be separate from your annual contribution as it is going to a specific endowment and it will count towards our funding commitment.

***Remember that donations are tax deductible***

The ECU Pirate Club:

Please contact either of these individuals for information on other ways to make a tax deductible donation directly to the endowment.
